Centre County not expecting media circus for Jerry Sandusky hearing Thursday

— Centre County officials are expecting a strong media presence Thursday in Bellefonte for Jerry Sandusky‘s defense hearing, but nothing compared with what happened in June.

Officials are expecting about 15 news trucks flanking the courthouse. County Administrator Tim Boyde said the coverage will be “not as extensive as it was through the court process.”

Sandusky is expected to appear at the hearing, driven in from the state correctional institution in Waynesburg by sheriff’s deputies.

The hearing is over Sandusky’s lawyers’ claims that they didn’t have enough time to prepare for the child sex abuse trial and they will be presenting additional evidence. Sandusky was convicted on 45 counts in June and is currently serving a 30-60 year prison sentence.

Boyde added that there are currently no plans to use the third floor of the courtroom annex as a media overflow room, and the main courtroom should be sufficient to hold the media members in attendance.

Sandusky has continued to maintain his innocence despite the trial testimony of eight men who said the former Penn State assistant football coach molested them when they were children.
