High school girls' basketball: Fast-starting Bald Eagle Area defeats Penns Valley

— Bald Eagle Area started strong and held off a Penns Valley rally to net a 47-40 girls’ basketball triumph on Wednesday.

The Lady Eagles (8-1) outscored Penns Valley 17-7 in the opening quarter and led 28-14 at the half.

“Bald Eagle Area is a good team,” Penns Valley coach Andrea Borland said. “They came out strong in the first quarter and we weren’t able to break their press.”

Penns Valley made a run in the fourth quarter, outscoring BEA 17-6. The Lady Rams couldn’t get any closer.

BEA’s Marissa Ward turned in another outstanding game with 25 points, including three 3-pointers.

Lexi Josefik chipped in 10 points and four assists.

Kelsey Boone led the Lady Rams with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Chelsea Emel chipped in seven points and Carly Ripka added five points and three assists.
