WINGATE — The Bald Eagle Area boys’ basketball team withstood hot-shooting Tyrone to remain undefeated with a 66-62 home victory Friday.
The Eagles (11-0) held a 36-26 halftime lead. But Tyrone’s Brandon Gripp and Jordan Miller’s strong shooting tied the game 48-48 entering the fourth quarter.
BEA used its size advantage in the fourth, distributing the ball inside to veteran Dennis Fisher, who finished with 17 points. Guard Bryan Greene led the Eagles with 18 points. Brandon Gettig added 11.
Gripp led Tyrone with 30 points. Miller added 19. The duo combined for nine 3-pointers.
“Brandon Gripp and Jordan Miller went crazy in the second half,” BEA coach Bill Butterworth said. “They were on fire. We came out in the fourth and decided to use our size advantage and work the ball inside to Dennis. We did a real nice job of getting him the ball.”
The margin of victory was BEA’s smallest of the season.
“It was our toughest test so far,” Butterworth said. “Tyrone is a good, quality team with some quality shooters.”
BEA visits Central Mountain on Tuesday.
