Penn State women's swimming: Nittany Lions split meet

From CDT staff reportsJanuary 14, 2013

Penn State won eight of 16 events and easily beat Missouri State 235-59 but was edged by Arkansas 151.5-146.5 Saturday.

The Razorbacks’ power in the relays proved to be the difference as Arkansas took each of those events.

Paige Whitmire, Mackenzie Powers and each were double winners for the Nittany Lions. Whitmire was first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races, Powers took first in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, and Modglin won the 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley, with teammate Merritt Krawczyk following in second in the latter. Gabi Shishkoff was first in the 1,000 freestyle while Chelsea Weedman and Katie Rowe finished 1-2 in the 200 butterfly.

The Nittany Lions are back home to host Navy on Jan. 26.
