Boys basketball: Philipsburg-Osceola holds off Forest Hills

From CDT staff reportsJanuary 15, 2013

— The Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties rushed out to a big lead, relaxed a bit in the second half but were able to hold on to a 52-50 win over Forest Hills on Monday.

Philipsburg-Osceola (3-8) got 22 points out of Eric Nartatez and 15 from Matt Carpin. Nartatez drilled four 3-pointers and Carpin added two for the Mounties who built a 27-13 halftime lead.

But P-O saw their lead cut severely in the second half as the Rangers (1-11) tallied 16 third-quarter points and 21 in the final stanza. Joe Donoughe led Forest Hills with 20 points. Andrew Reifer added eight points and 13 rebounds for the Mounties who will be in action against Clearfield on Tuesday.

“We built up a big lead then we just got really impatient in the second half,” P-O coach Dave McKnight said. “We just need to learn how to play with the lead and be smart. We haven’t been in that situation a whole lot. It’s a big win and an important step for us I think. Hopefully this gives us some energy and determination.”
