Penn State football: Former Nittany Lions wide receiver Shawney Kersey transfers to Marshall

Published: January 16, 2013

Shawney Kersey has found a new football home.

The former Penn State wide receiver has solidified plans to enroll at Marshall. Kersey left the Nittany Lions for personal reasons last September.

Kersey appeared in three games last season, catching six passes for 44 yards. He started Penn State’s first two games against Ohio University and Virginia.

He becomes the third former Penn State player to transfer to Marshall in the past six months. Wide receiver Devon Smith and cornerback Derrick Thomas transferred to the West Virginia school last summer.

Smith redshirted this past season. Thomas started eight games and collected 53 tackles in 2012.

Kersey has one year of eligibility. The NCAA sanctions levied against Penn State last summer permits players to transfer and play immediately at their new schools.
