Recap: SMU vs. Southern Miss

Dwayne Davis scored 17 points, leading the Southern Miss Golden Eagles over the SMU Mustangs, 74-70, in a Conference USA showdown at the Moody Coliseum.

Davis was 6-of-10 from the floor, as well as 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, for the Golden Eagles (14-4, 3-0 C-USA), who won their sixth game in a row. Rashard McGill (14 points), Cedric Jenkins (10 points), and Jerrold Brooks (10 points) all added significant performances while Jonathan Mills led the team with nine rebounds.

Jalen Jones recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Mustangs (11-8, 1-3), who have lost four of their last five. Shawn Williams (17 points), Ryan Manuel (14 points), and Nick Russell (11 points, six rebounds) were the three other Mustangs in double-figures.

SMU led 32-26 at the break after holding the Golden Eagles to 32,4 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.

Southern Miss started off the second half with a 20-6 run and outscored the Mustangs 48-38 in the period. After taking the lead the Golden Eagles never gave it back and were able to fight off SMU until the final buzzer.

The Golden Eagles' bench supplied 27 points compared to only six from the Mustangs' reserves.
