Published: January 17, 2013

— Clearfield fended off a late Phlipsburg-Osceola rally as the Lady Mounties fell 56-54 on Wednesday.

P-O (6-7) trailed 32-23 at the half and was down by as many as 11 in the final quarter before rallying. Haylee Hayward’s late 3-pointer cut the margin to two points, but possession arrow favored the Bisons on a tie-up with one second left.

“We played hard and smart at the end,” P-O coach Doug Myers said. “With their size, we just came up a little short.”

Dakota Farmery had 23 points and Breanna Peters added 22 for Clearfield. Farmery had 11 of her points in the second quarter when the Lady Bisons took the lead for good by outscoring P-O 18-7.

Brianna Rusnak had 17 points to pace the Lady Mounties. Abby Showers netted 12 and Hayward added 10. Myers lauded the defensive effort of Mackenzie Burge.
