Penn State women's soccer: Erica Walsh earns another coaching honor

Published: January 19, 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State women’s soccer coach Erica Walsh picked up another major honor on Friday night.

Walsh was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America Coach of the Year, the result of voting by her fellow Division I coaches from around the country.

Walsh is the third Penn State women’s soccer coach to earn the honor, joining the program’s two previous leaders, Pat Farmer in 1999 and Paula Wilkins in 2005. She had earlier won the Big Ten Coach of the Year honor for a second time.

Walsh guided the Nittany Lions to a 21-4-2 season, including 10-0-1 in the Big Ten to extend the program’s conference record to 15 straight Big Ten titles. Penn State went on to make its first appearance in the national championship game, where it fell 4-1 to North Carolina, and made the program’s fourth appearance at the College Cup.
