Intermittent snow squalls Monday made for slippery driving conditions, causing car accidents and closing down a highway.

A stretch of Route 322 in the Seven Mountains area was closed in the afternoon due to icy road conditions, according to scanner reports.

Emergency crews called for the highway to be closed around 12:30 p.m. Monday and reported the stretch of roadway that crossed the mountain was “a sheet of ice.” Emergency dispatchers confirmed around 5:30 p.m. that the road has reopened.

Meanwhile, police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 322 near the Pets Come First animal shelter in Potter Township. According to scanner reports, a tractor-trailer collided with a car on the roadway.

A minor one-car accident also happened on Park Avenue and Fox Hollow Road on the Penn State campus.

The National Weather Service in State College called for up to an inch of snow Monday and cautioned that substantially reduced visibility and slippery conditions on roadways are possible. Snow flurries are likely to continue Tuesday and Wednesday, as well.
