Campus corner: Port earns wrestling honor

After winning all four of his bouts at the Virginia Duals and following that with a win against Lock Haven last week, Edinboro 141-pounder Mitchell Port has been named the PSAC Wrestler of the Week.

Port, a Bellefonte graduate, beat No. 17 Chris Mecate of Old Dominion, 6-3, No. 13 Zach Neibert of Virginia Tech, 15-5, Scott Mattingly of Central Michigan, 3-2 and Connor Hanafee of Army, 5-3. Port is now 22-3 for the season and ranked fifth in the country. Edinboro is 7-3.


Steve Bosak (State College, Cornell) won a pair of bouts against Harvard and Brown to raise his record to 7-2. Cornell is 8-2.

Erik Galloway (State College, Buffalo) decisioned Seth Schaner of Eastern Michigan, 3-0 as Buffalo beat the Eagles 19-14 for its first victory of the season. The Bulls are 1-7.


Tyann McDaniel (Bellefonte, Misericordia) has 37 rebounds, 50 assists, one block, 26 steals and a 10.7 scoring average. Misericordia is 8-7.

Emily Suhey (State College, Villanova) has 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a 1.6 scoring average. Villanova is 15-2.

Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata) has a 15.7 scoring average and also averages 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks. Juniata is 12-5.

Kate McDonald (State College, Juniata) has a 12.4 scoring average and also averages 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.4 seals and 1.4 blocks per game. Juniata is 13-4.

Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) averages 0.8 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.1 steals.

Jena Matter (Bellefonte, Mansfield) has 105 rebounds, 32 assists, 11 blocks, 19 steals and a 10.7 scoring average. Mansfield is 4-11.

Mitch Moyer (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has 39 rebounds, 15 assists, four steals and a 6.3 scoring average. Altoona is 6-10.

Alidia Strouse (State College, PSU-Altoona) has 102 rebounds, 18 assists, six blocks, 26 steals and a 7.6 scoring average. Altoona is 1-17.

Pat St. Andrews (State College, PSU-Behrend) averages 5.4 points and 3.5 rebounds to go along with 2.2 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.2 blocks. Behrend is 12-5.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) averages 5.4 points and 3.5 rebounds. She also has 32 assists and 31 steals, Greensburg is 8-10.

Madison Bastress (Penns Valley, Washington & Jefferson) has played in two games and has three rebounds, two assists and has scored four points. W&J is 12-5.


Jenny Ryan (Bellefonte, Grove City) swam on the second-place 200 freestyle relay team that posted a time of 1:38.75 in a loss to Denison.
