Boys’ basketball: Leri makes clutch free throw in Grace Prep win

Published: January 22, 2013

— John Leri’s free throw — the first made shot of the game from the charity stripe for the Storm — gave Grace Prep its first victory of the season with a 44-43 win over Blair County Christian on Monday night.

Leri stole the ball and broke down the court, drawing the foul just before time expired. With three-tenths of a second left, and the Storm a combined 0-for-8 from the line to that point, Leri missed the first attempt before sinking the second try to lock up the win.

“We felt like Penn State when they played Nebraska the other night,” said Storm coach David Gindhart said, referring to five straight missed attempts for the Nittany Lions in the final minute of a loss on Saturday. “Especially after he missed that first one, that made it really brutal.”

Leri finished with 10 points while Minsu Kang’s 13 points paced Grace Prep (1-8).
