Penn State soccer: Gallagher picked in MLS draft

Published: January 23, 2013

— Penn State’s John Gallagher was chosen in the second round, 30th overall, by the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer’s Supplemental Draft on Tuesday.

The senior defender played in 54 games, starting 36, and captained the Nittany Lions last season in helping them to the Big Ten regular-season title while collecting a goal and thee assists.

He is the sixth Nittany Lion drafted into the MLS, following Mark Fetrow last season along with Corey Hertzog, Drew Cost, Jason Yeisley and Ted Gillen. Head coach Bob Warming has had at least one player drafted each MLS season since its inception in 1996, and is the only coach to do so.
