D'Angelo Harrison scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the St. John's Red Storm claimed a 71-67 win over the Seton Hall Pirates in a Big East Conference battle at Madison Square Garden.
JaKarr Sampson posted 19 points for the Red Storm (13-7, 5-3 Big East) and Phil Greene IV with 10 points as the squad captured a fourth straight victory.
The Pirates (13-7, 2-5) were paced by Eugene Teague with 22 points, followed by Fuquan Edwin with 14 and a game-high nine rebounds, although he shot just 4-of-15 from the floor and 1-of-6 beyond the arc as the squad bowed for the fifth time in six tries.
Trailing by four with just over three minutes remaining in the first half, St. John's put together an 11-2 run to close out the frame and grab a 38-33 advantage at the break. The Red Storm shot an impressive 58.3 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half the hosts dipped to only 41.4 percent from the field, including 1-of-6 behind the 3-point line, but still they were able to hold on for the victory.
The Red Storm outscored Seton Hall by a 15-9 margin at the free-throw line on the day.
