High school track: State College’s Cather, Mullin earn wins at Susquehanna meet

— Will Cather and Matt Mullin each won boys’ individual titles to pace the State College High School participants in the Susquehanna Indoor Classic track & field meet as Susquehanna University on Sunday.

Cather blitzed the field in the 3,000 meters, capturing the event in 8 minutes, 58.64 seconds. Mullin took the shot put with a heave of 47 feet, 7 inches. Teammate Evan Galimberti (45-6) was third in the event.

The Little Lions had several top-three finishers in both the boys’ and girls’ competition.

In the girls’ meet, Lauren Bonness placed second in the 55-meter dash (7.48). Hannah Grubb (10:45.45 in the 3,000), Haley Crawford (27.18 in the 200) and Kate Nese (9-0 in the pole vault) each placed third.

Bonness, Victoria Crawford, Haley Crawford and Chandley Book teamed to place second in the 4x400 relay, while Emma Cousins, Victoria Scutti, Hannah Catalano and Alyssa Valent were second in the 4x800 (10:18.53). Monye Valentine, Megan Vonada, Emily Randolph and Olivia Watkins took third in the 4x200 (1:53.34).

In the boys meet, Kyle Adams (2:04.65 in the 800), Sean King (44-11 1/2 in the triple jump) and Dan Forziat (6-0 in the high jump) each had second-place finishes.

John Smith, Adams, Chris Golembeski and Seamus Wagner were second in the 4x400 (3:40.32), while Kyle Sutherland, Eric Heatwole, Kevin Drago amd Conner Stashko were third in the 4x800 (8:58.21).
