Penn State track: Records fall for Nittany Lions

Published: January 28, 2013

— Freshman Brannon Kidder broke the 4-minute barrier in the mile, and Casimir Loxsom and the 4x200-meter relay team set records to cap a scintilating weekend for the Nittany Lions in the Penn State National.

Kidder’s performance, a clocking of 3 minutes, 59.48 seconds, is third on Penn State’s all-time list. In all, the Nittany Lions earned nine wins during the two-day event.

Loxsom, who holds the world junior record, broke his own Ashenfelter Track record by nearly a second in 1:15.79, also breaking the American Collegiate Record of 1:15.86 by Harun Abda. Loxsom just missed breaking the American record of 1:15.70, set earlier in the day by Duane Solomon in Scotland.

Also setting a collegiate record was the 4x200 team of Emunael Mpanduki, Matt Gilmore, Brandon Bennett-Green and Aaron Nadolsky on Friday, turning in a time of 1:24.70 to best the former mark of 1:25.05 by Rutgers in 2007. They also broke their own school record set earlier this month.

Another record-setter was Will Barr, who broke the Penn State record in the weight throw at 67-3 1/2, well beyond Dorian Lowe’s old record of 66-5 3/4 and the third-best NCAA toss this season.
