STATE COLLEGE — The State College girls basketball team produced a furious rally yet fell short in a 51-50 loss to Cumberland Valley on Friday at the North Gym.
Trailing 36-27 entering after three quarters, the Lady Little Lions scored 22 points in the fourth.
Both teams drained seven 3-pointers. State Colleges Jenna Altomare hit four and scored a game-high 17 points. Kyla Irwin added 16 points and Franki Treglia scored 11.
Four players for Cumberland Valley (15-4) scored in double figures. Jackie Falconer led the Eagles with 14 points. Kelly Jekot and Maddie Torresin each added 11 points.
We were trying every kind of defense on them and they were nailing threes, said State College coach Bethany Irwin, whose team lost twice to Cumberland Valley by a combined three points. Cumberland Valley is a very patient team. ... If we played the way we did in the fourth quarter in the other three quarters, we would have won by 15 points.
The game marked the Lady Little Lions annual Pink Out event. Bethany Irwin said the game raised $5,000 for the Mount Nittany Breast Cancer Health Fund.
State College (12-7) returns to action Saturday against Mifflin County at the North Gym.
