Men’s hockey: Nittany Lions pound Ohio U. at Hershey

— Freshmen Kenny Brooks and Mark Yanis recorded a goal and two assists each as Penn State skated to a 6-1 victory against Ohio in an exhibition matchup at the Giant Center on Friday night.

Penn State, which played in front of 6,107 fans, competed in front of at least 5,000 spectators for the eighth time this season.

Freshman Casey Bailey added two goals, while senior Michael Longo also scored. Freshman defenseman Connor Varley notched a two-point game with a pair of assists, and sophomore netminder PJ Musico turned aside 13 shots.

In the first period, the Bobcats skated to a 1-0 advantage before Bailey, who tallied on the power play, and Glen put the Lions ahead, 2-1, after the opening frame. The Nittany Lions tallied four times in the second period, all in a 3:46 span, to put the game out of reach.

Penn State out shout the Bobcats by a 37-14 margin and went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Ohio finished 0-for-3 with the man advantage. Ohio goaltender Matt Michno allowed six goals on 27 shots before Aaron Alkema made 10 saves in relief.
