Former State College wrestler Steve Bosak registered a pair of pins over the weekend as Cornell earned two wins and locked up its 11th straight Ivy League title.
Bosak posted two pins as the Big Red beat Hofstra and then Columbia later Saturday to extend the longest current streak of Ivy League championships in any sport.
Bosak, the defending NCAA champion at 184 pounds and ranked fourth at his weight in the nation, is now 11-2 for the season and has five falls. Cornell is 11-3.
Wrestling
Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) was idle last weekend. He’s 24-3 and ranked fifth in the country at 141. Edinboro is 8-4.
Leo Wortman (Bellefonte, Stevens Tech) is 6-5.
Erik Galloway (State College, Buffalo) picked up a 5-4 decision at 141 in Buffalo’s 22-19 loss to Kent State. The Bulls are 1-9.
Basketball
Tyann McDaniel (Bellefonte, Misericordia) has a 9.4 points-per-game scoring average. She has 45 rebounds, 66 assists, one block and 33 steals. Misericordia is 10-10.
Emily Suhey (State College, Villanova) has three assists, two steals and 10 rebounds. She has a 1.6 scoring average for the Wildcats, who are 16-5.
Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata) is averaging 16.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks. Juniata is 14-7.
Kate McDonald (State College, Juniata) was named Landmark Player of the Week on Monday after a pair of Eagle games last week, including a career-high 34 points along with 15 rebounds in an upset of No. 19 Moravian on Saturday. She leads the team in scoring (14.0), rebounds (10.0), steals (2.3) and blocks (0.5) and also averages 3.2 assists per game. Juniata is 15-6.
Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) averages 0.8 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.3 steals off the bench.
Jena Matter (Bellefonte, Mansfield) has 130 rebounds, 37 assists, 11 blocks, 23 steals and a 10.8 scoring average. She has started all 19 games. Mansfield is 4-15.
Mitch Moyer (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has 60 rebounds, 19 assists, nine steals and a 6.1 scoring average. Altoona is 7-14.
Alidia Strouse (State College, PSU-Altoona) has 113 rebounds, 22 assists, eight blocks, 28 steals and a 7.4 scoring average. Altoona is 2-20.
Patrick St. Andrews (State College, PSU-Behrend) averages 5.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.1 blocks. Behrend is 15-6.
Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) has 85 rebounds, 37 assists, 40 steals, one block and a 6.0 scoring average. Greensburg is 10-12.
Madison Bastress (Penns Valley, Washington & Jefferson) has played in three games and has four rebounds, two assists and a 1.3 scoring average. W&J is 14-7.
Swimming
Jenny Ryan (Bellefonte, Grove City) was third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:13.55 in the Pitt Quad. She also swam on the third-place 200 freestyle relay team, which was clocked in 1:39.13.
Marie Ginger (State College, Gettysburg) was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.74 in a loss to Mary Washington. Gettysburg is 6-1.
