Penn State volleyball: Nittany Lions sweeps St. Francis

Published: February 9, 2013

The Penn State men’s volleyball team stayed perfect in conference play and won its ninth consecutive match with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-17 sweep of St. Francis on Friday night at Rec Hall.

The No. 7 Nittany Lions (9-1, 3-0 EIVA) led in every major statistical category while hitting .455 and holding a 43-29 edge in kills, a 7.5-2 margin in blocks, 25-22 in digs and 6-2 in aces.

“I thought it was a real good effort by us tonight,” head coach Mark Pavlik said. “I think for the most part our serving had them off balance. I thought we did a great job defensively, not much fell on us. Offensively we hit .455 and I think things are starting to fall into place for us.”

Redshirt freshman Matt Seifert’s 10 kills on an error-free 13 swings to hit .769 led Penn State. Peter Russell and Tom Comfort each added nine kills while Nick Turko posted four blocks, Aaron Russell had seven digs and Taylor Hammond gave out 38 assists.

Logan Patterson’s 11 kills and Colin Sherwin’s nine kills led the Red Flash (4-7, 1-2).

The Nittany Lions are back on the Rec Hall floor Saturday night with a big match against No. 9 Ohio State.
