Penn State men's golf: Nittany Lions ousted in match play

Penn State fell to Wisconsin 4-1-0 to close out the Big Ten Matchplay Championship on Saturday at the Concessions Golf Club.

Freshman Geoff Vartelas earned the lone win for the Nittany Lions, topping Matt Ross 2-up after winning the final two holes following the players sitting all-square through 16. Jay Woodward, Jens Talbert, Xander McDonald-Smith and Anthony DeGol all lost their matches.

Illinois went on to take the tournament title.

Penn State is back on the course Feb. 23 in Houston for the Challenge of Champions.
