Penn State lacrosse: Nittany Lions win opener 11-6 over Michigan

Thanks to four-goal efforts from TJ Sanders and Shane Sturgis, the Penn State men’s lacrosse team opened its season with an 11-6 victory over Michigan on Saturday afternoon at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse.

Sanders also had an assist in his collegiate debut. Jack Forster added two goals and an assist, Tom LaCrosse netted the other goal as Penn State rolled off five straight goals to open the second half after holding a 5-3 lead at intermission. Tommy O’Neill gave out two assists and one each came from Nick Dolik, Danny Henneghan and Erik Myers.

Kyle Jackson and David McCormack each scored twice and one goal each came from Thomas Paras and Will Meter for the Wolverines.

Austin Kaut made 12 saves in goal for the No. 15 Nittany Lions.

Penn State next meets No. 8 Denver in Jacksonville, Fla., next weekend.
