Penn State men's tennis: Hokies stop Nittany Lions 4-3

Virginia Tech barely out Penn State 4-3 Sunday afternoon.

The teams split the six singles matches, with Russell Bader stopping Hunter Koontz 6-3, 6-1, Roman Trkulja slipping past Tripimir Kujundzic 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 and Matt Barry beating Aaron Gomez 6-1, 6-4.

However, the Hokies took two of three doubles matches to earn the deciding doubles point. Bryan Welnetz and C.J. Griffin won their match 8-5 over Koontz and Lucas Oliveira, but Virginia Tech won the other matches including Trimipir Kujundzic and Marko Lovrinovic edging Tomas Hanzlik and Trkulja 8-7 (4).

The Nittany Lions next visit Virginia Commonwealth on Feb. 23.
