Campus Corner: Scholly lands academic honor at Juniata

Former State College athlete Brian Scholly has been named to the Capital One All-District Academic team.

Scholly, who is majoring in history and secondary education while a member of the Juniata College men’s basketball team, carries a 3.6 GPA in the the classroom.

On the basketball court, he is averaging 16.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He also averages 1.5 assists and 0.3 steals. He leads the team in points, field goals, 3-point field goals and free throws. He has averaged over 20 points per game the past two weeks and had a career-high 34 points against Susquehanna recently.

Juniata is 15-8.

Wrestling

Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) is 25-3 and ranked fifth in the country at 141 pounds. Edinboro is 9-4 and will visit Iowa Saturday.

Steve Bosak (State College, Cornell) is 13-3 while Cornell is 12-3 and preparing to host the National Team Duals.

Basketball

Tyann McDaniel (Bellefonte, Misericordia) has 52 rebounds, 71 assists, one blocked shot, 35 steals and a 9.6 scoring average. Misericordia is 11-12.

Emily Suhey (State College, Villanova) has 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a 1.6 scoring average. Villanova is 16-7.

Kate McDonald (State College, Juniata) was named the ECAC South Player of the Week. She has 14.0 scoring 10.0 rebound averages. She also averages 3.2 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.2 blocks. She leads the team in points, rebounds, steals and blocks. Juniata is 16-7.

Liz Wortman (Bellefonte, Juniata) averages 0.9 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.1 steals.

Jena Matter (Bellefonte, Mansfield) has 132 rebounds, 42 assists, 11 blocks, 24 steals and a 10.2 scoring average. Mansfield is 4-17.

Mitch Moyer (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has 70 rebounds, 22 assists, 12 steals and a 6.2 scoring average. Altoona is 9-14.

Alidia Strouse (State College, PSU-Altoona) has 120 rebounds, 25 assists, nine blocks, 29 steals and a 7.3 scoring average. Altoona is 3-21.

Pat St. Andrews (State College, PSU-Behrend) has 57 rebounds, 112 points, three blocks, 19 steals and 57 assists. Behrend is 16-7.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) has a 5.8 scoring averages to go with 89 rebounds, 39 assists, 40 steals and a block. Greensburg is 11-12.

Madison Bastress (Penns Valley, Washington & Jefferson) has played in five games and has four rebounds, two assists and five points. W&J is 16-7.

Swimming

Marie Gingher (State College, Gettysburg) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.06 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.61 as Gettysburg beat Franklin & Marshall to finish 9-1 and win the Centennial Conference for the second year in a row.

Football

Colby Way (State College, Buffalo) has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team for the second year in a row. Way, a computer engineering major, has a 3.49 GPA. He ranked second on the team in sacks with seven from his defensive end position and had 58 tackles and 10 1/2 tackles for loss.
