From CDT staff reportsFebruary 13, 2013

The Bald Eagle Area basketball teams will be wearing some pretty sizable targets next week.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles both earned No. 1 seeds for the District 6 tournaments with the seedings announced Tuesday.

They are two of four Centre County programs which will hit the courts for the tournaments as the brackets for three classes have been set. The Class AAAA pairings, with both State College teams, will be announced in a few days.

The BEA boys, who beat rival Bellefonte 67-38 on Tuesday to improve to 18-2, will open the Class AA tournament later next week after receiving a first-round bye. They will face either No. 8 seed Marion Center or No. 9 Cambria Heights, which will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Carroll High School.

The Lady Eagles, who also toppled the Lady Red Raiders 45-20 on Tuesday night to move to 20-1, also will have a first-round bye and await the winner between No. 8 Marion Center and No. 9 Bishop McCort. That game will be played at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Carroll.

The Penns Valley boys (12-5) will be the No. 7 seed in Class AA and meet No. 10 Ligonier Valley at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tyrone Middle School.
