High School basketball: Tyrone thumps Penns Valley 62-41

Published: February 14, 2013

PENNS VALLEY — Tyrone jumped all over Penns Valley early on Tuesday, as the Golden Eagles exploded for an 18-point first quarter en route to a 62-41 victory.

Ashley Struble's 10 points and 10 rebounds led the Lady Rams. Nicole Gripp led all scorers with 16. Kelsey Boone scored two points but grabbed 10 rebounds.

Penns Valley rallied to win the second and fourth quarters but the first proved decisive.

"Tyrone got off to a fast start and we were playing catch up for the rest of the game," said Penns Valley coach Andrea Borland. "The first quarter really set the tone for the rest of the game."

"We played hard and played aggressive defense," Borland said. "We did a good job on some of their top scorers also. Tyrone is a good all-around team."

Penns Valley will host West Branch at 12:30 p.m. Saturday as a make-up from its holiday tournament.
