Penn State softball: Cassidy Bell wins Big Ten honor

— Penn State’s Cassidy Bell earned Big Ten Softball Player of the Week honors on Monday after her performance in the Troy Cox Classic over the weekend.

During the Nittany Lions’ season-opening games in Las Cruces, N.M., the senior centerfielder pushed her hitting streak to 16 games with at least one in each of her team’s five games, going 9-for-15 with three home runs, nine RBIs, five runs, four stolen bases and a 1.333 slugging percentage.

Penn State finished 2-3 on the weekend with wins over New Mexico State and Missouri-Kansas City.

The Nittany Lions will play in the Carolina Classic at North Carolina this weekend.
