An 18-year-old man could face a trial on charges that he sexually assaulted a young woman in her sleep at a home in Ferguson Township.
Austin Demaree, of Milroy, was bound for trial Wednesday following a preliminary hearing in Centre County court. Demaree faces felony charges for attempting to rape the 18-year-old woman in December.
Ferguson Township police testified at the hearing Wednesday that Demaree approached the young woman in her sleep and filmed the assault with a webcam on a laptop computer.
A video recovered by police allegedly shows Demaree climbing into a bed next to the sleeping woman, removing her clothing and assaulting her. He moves off the bed several times when the woman begins to stir during the hours-long recording, police said.
The young woman reported the assault to police two days later. She told officers that she did not consent and was not aware the assault took place.
Demaree apparently had been staying in the home before the alleged incident, said his defense attorney, Tim Fleming.
Demaree is charged with four felony counts, including criminal attempt-rape of an unconscious person and two misdemeanor counts of criminal attempt-indecent assault. He remains free on $50,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
