UNIVERSITY PARK Penn States Wasef Burbar turned in the fourth-highest score on the high bar in NCAA history on Saturday night at Rec Hall during the Nittany Lions 446.850-403.300 victory over Springfield College.
Burbar postged a 16.000 in the event to break the school record for the No. 1 Nittany Lions (5-0).
Wasefs routine was great, said Penn State head coach Randy Jepson. He has struggled a little bit during his time and I know he hasnt met his expectations yet. Tonight it was great to see him having fun and enjoying gymnastics. He has worked very hard and is loving gymnastics. He really knows his routines and I think it showed tonight.
Penn State swept the top spot and the best team total in every event, and had at least the top three in five of six events. Felix Aronovich earned the all-around title with an 87.950 total, and Trevor Howard had the top scores in three events. Howards 15.800 paced Penn State taking six of the top seven spots in the still rings, and he added a 15.100 to lead a sweep of the top three spots on the vault. His 15.350 led the Lions taking the top six places in the parallel bars.
Parker Raques 15.050 led the Nittany Lions sweep of the top six in the floor exercise, while Adrian Evans 14.950 did the same in the pommel horse.
