Penn State gymnastics: Nittany Lions sweep awards

Penn State’s Wasef Burbar and Trevor Howard were honored as the Big Ten’s top gymnasts for the week on Monday after their performances in a win over Springfield on Saturday.

Burbar was named Gymnast of the Week after setting a school record, and posting the fourth-highest score in NCAA history on the high bar, with a 16.000. He is just the second Big Ten athlete to reach the 16.000 mark. He also was fourth on the parallel bars and sixth on the floor exercise.

Howard is the Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season by winning three events, hitting a career high 15.800 on the still rings while also winning on the vault and parallel bars.

No. 1 Penn State visits No. 7 Illinois on Saturday.
