Penn State golf: Lions lead tournament

Xander McDonald-Smith and Jay Woodward each shot 6-over par rounds of 78 as Penn State took the lead at the after the first round at the Colleton River Collegiate.

The Nittany Lions are eight strokes ahead of second-place Michigan with a score of 317. McDonald-Smith and Woodward are tied second on stroke behind leader Jon Finley of Michigan State. Chris Houston (80) and Anthony DeGol (81) rounded out the Penn State scorers.

The final 36 holes are scheduled for Thursday.
