CLEARWATER, Fla. — Macy Jones pitched six scoreless innings but could not hold off South Carolina in extra innings in a 4-3 Penn State softball loss Sunday afternoon in the finale of the South Florida Under Armour Showcase.
Kristen Struetts sacrifice fly plated the winning run in the eighth for the Gamecocks (15-5), while Katie Marks pitched the final three innings and earned the win.
Cassidy Bell hit a solo home run and Lexi Knief had two hits for the Nittany Lions (6-12). Jordan Wheatley started and was tagged for three runs in the first inning before Jones (5-5) shut the Gamecocks down until the eighth. Jones gave up six hits, one walk and the one run while striking out two.
