Police suspect that an Altoona man was driving under the influence when the car he was driving crashed into a tree Sunday afternoon in Taylor Township.
Michael McGee, 40, was traveling north on state Route 350 near Stahl’s Lane at 4:50 p.m. when his 2000 Chevrolet Malibu crossed into the southbound lane, almost colliding head-on with another vehicle, state police at Philipsburg said. McGee was able to steer his car back into the northbound lane before he lost control and left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
McGee was taken to Altoona Hospital for observation. Bald Eagle Volunteer Fire Company and Bellwood EMS also responded to the scene.
Police said McGee faces charges in the crash and pending the results of a blood alcohol test.
