Campus Corner: Port, Bosak wrestle to conference titles

A pair of former Centre County wrestlers won individual titles in their respective conference tournaments over the weekend.

Bellefonte’s Mitchell Port won the 141-pound championship in the EWL tournament, beating Lock Haven’s Dan Neff, 6-1 in the finals. He is ranked fourth with a record of 30-3. Port has won 15 straight bouts heading into the NCAA tournament later this month.

State College’s Steve Bosak, the defending NCAA champion at 184 pounds, won his first EIWA championship. Bosak is 20-2 and ranked fourth at 184. Cornell won an unprecedented seventh straight EIWA team title.

Baseball

Scott Glass (State College, Bucknell) is hitting .125 with a run scored and two hits. Bucknell is 2-9.

Matt Fisher (Bellefonte, Bellefonte, Mansfield) is hitting .455 with four runs scored, five hits, a double and four RBIs.

Seth Tressler (Bellefonte, Mansfield) has a .364 average with five runs scored, four hits, two doubles and three RBIs. Mansfield is 2-1.

Justin Taylor (Bald Eagle Area, California, Pa.) is hitting .400 with a run scored, two hits and an RBIs. On the mound he is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA. In 11 innings, he has allowed three runs, two earned, walked two and struck out nine.

A.J. Robinson (BEA, California, Pa.) is hitting .320 with two runs scored, eight hits, two doubles and eight RBIs. Cal is 6-2.

Brandon Myers (Philipsburg, Osceola, Slippery Rock) is hitting .308 with six runs scored, eight hits, a double, a homer and six runs driven in. Slippery Rock is 8-2.

Matt Curtis (P-O, Slippery Rock) has a .136 average with five runs scored and three hits.

Luke Curtis (P-O, Pitt) is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA. In 2 2/3 innings he has allowed three hits, an earned run, walked three and struck out two. Pitt is 9-4.

Drew Bryan (P-O, VMI) is hitting .333 with seven runs scored, 15 hits, three doubles, two triples and 10 runs driven in. VMI is 5-11.

Austin Mock (State College, Indiana, Pa.) is hitting.235 with a run scored, four hits and has driven in a run. IUP is 6-4.

Clint Hicks (State College, Penn State Harrisburg) has worked eight innings and is 0-1 with a 10.12 ERA. He has given up 11 hits, 10 runs nine of them earned, waked two and struck out two. Harrisburg is 2-5.

Brandon Auman (State College, Penn State Altoona) is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA. In 6 1/3 innings he has given up eight hits and two runs, both earned, while walking four and striking out six.

Colin Muthler (State College, Penn State Altoona) is hitting .167 for Altoona, which is 3-6.

Trey Nicosia (State College, Wagner) is hitting .333 (two-for-six). Wagner is 2-8.

Parker Watson (P-O, Lock Haven) is 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA. In 11 1/3 innings, he has allowed 13 hits and eight runs, four earned, while walking five and striking out eight. Lock Haven is 1-5.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) is off to a hot start, hitting .484 with six runs scored, 15 hits, two doubles, a triple and nine runs driven in. Shippensburg is 9-2.

Brandon Quay (Bellefonte, Alderson-Broaddus) is 0-for-2. The team is 4-4.

Matt Fry (State College, Washington & Jefferson) is hitting .400 with a run scored, two hits including a double, and one RBIs. W&J is 3-0.

Softball

Lily Glunt (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .400 with eight runs scored, eight hits, two homers and seven RBIs. The team went 7-3 during play in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) has a .452 average with 11 runs scored, 14 hits and six RBIs.

Christina Stathes (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .176 with two runs, three hits and three RBIs

Kelly Chambers (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .363 with 11 runs scored, eight hits, two homers and three RBIs.

Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .600 with five runs scored, six hits, two doubles, a homeer and five RBIs. In the circle, she is 2-1 with a 1.87 ERA. In 15 innings, she has given up eight hits and four runs, all earned, walked one and struck out 21.

Cassondra Ross (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has worked 12 innings and given up 18 hits, 10 runs, eight of them earned, walked three and struck out four. She is 2.1 with a 4.67 ERA.

Clarissa Keller (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .333 with seven runs, eight hits, three doubles and four RBIs.

Erica Pooler (Bellefonte, Lock Haven) is hitless in two trips so far. Lock Haven is 5-1.

Jasa Mitchell (BEA, Indiana, Pa.) is hitting .250 after two games. She has scored twice and has two hits, one them them a homer. She has one RBIs. IUP is 1-1.

Janelle Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) is hitting .167 with three hits, one a double, and eight RBIs.

Chelsey Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) has a .200 average with one hit.

Shawna Risely (BEA, Lycoming) is 0-for-4 while Lycoming is 5-3.

Katie Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and a stolen base against Emereson and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base against Finlandia as Delaware Valley finished its Southern trip with a 5-3 record.

Tess Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) went 1-for-4 with a run scored against Emerson and 2-for-4 against Finlandia.

Morgan Coble (P-O, Shenandoah U.) is hitting .263. She has scored four runs and driven in eight. Among her 10 his are two doubles. Shenandoah is 6-6.

Chelsea Rex (P-O, St. Francis) has a 5.91 ERA and a 4-1 record. In 32 innings, she has allowed 33 hits and 33 runs, 27 earned, while walking 17 and striking out 26.

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) is hitting .404 with 16 runs scored, 23 hits, four doubles, a triple, a homer and 10 RBIs. St. Francis is 11-7.

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, Central Connecticut State) has a .345 average wit two runs scored, 10 hits, a double, a homer and seven RBIs. Central Connecticut State is 7-4.

Tennis

Chris Borden (State College, George Mason) is 6-1 in doubles play. George Mason is 5-2.

Blake Gregory (State College, East Carolina) is 0-1 in singles, 1-0 in doubles, ECU is 10-1.

Lacrosse

Andy Jameson (State College, Eastern) has two goals and three assists. Eastern is 4-0.

Wrestling

Erik Galloway (State College, Buffalo) placed fifth in the MAC, going 2-2 and finishing the year 16-11.

Baasketball

Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata) scored 13 points against Albright in a 91-80 win that gave Juniata its first-ever ECAC championship. Juniata finished the year 21-9 with the most wins in school history. Scholly averaged 15.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals and .6 blocks for the Eagles.

Swimming

Jenny Ryan (Bellefonte, Grove City) will be swimming in the NCAA Division III Championships in the 200 and 400 individual medley events. She is seeded 24th in both. She also will swim the 100 freestyle where she is the 25th seed.

Marie Gingher (State College, Gettysburg) was named first team All-Centennial Conference in the 100 breaststroke and was given honorable mention in the 200 breaststroke.

Susanne Gingher (State College, James Madison) finished fifth in the 50 freestyle at the Colonial Athletic Association meet. The Dukes placed second in the event.

Track & Field

Shannon Daniels (State College, Wingate) won the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 1 1/4 inches at the Lenoir-Rhyne PowerSox Invitational. Daniels also placed fourth in the long jump (15-3 1/4).
