Penn State basketball: Lady Lions' Alex Bentley, Maggie Lucas named all-region

— Penn State’s Alex Bentley and Maggie Lucas have been named to the WBCA All-Region 6 team.

Bentley, a senior point guard, made the list for the second straight season. She is averaging 14.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.5 steals per game and became the third Lady Lion to win the France Pomeroy Naismith Award for the nation’s outstanding female collegian 5-foot-8 and under.

Bentley is the fourth player in Big Ten history and second in Penn State history with 1,500 points, 500 assists and 300 steals. She ranks in the Top 10 in school history in steals (second, 322), assists (seventh, 563) and scoring (eighth, 1,754).

Lucas, a junior guard, was the Big Ten Player of the Year and finished in the conference top-five in scoring, free throw percentage, 3-point field goal percentage and 3-point field goals made.

One of 15 finalists for the Wooden Award, given to the national player of the year, Lucas led the Lady Lions with a 20.5 points-per-game average and 3.2 3-point field goals made per game, making 47.5 percent of her 3-point attempts and 89.6 percent of her free throws. She also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 2.1 assists per game.

The Lady Lions meet Cal Poly on Sunday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Baton Rouge, La.
