Penn State women’s lacrosse: Cyr’s late goal lifts Nittany Lions past Drexel

— Mackenzie Cyr netted the game-winning goal with 36 seconds left in regulation to give the Penn State women’s lacrosse team a 9-8 victory over Drexel on Friday evening.

The No 11 Nittany Lions led for most of the contest before the Dragons erased a three-goal deficit, tying the match with 54 seconds left on Kelly Palace’s fourth goal of the day. Penn State then won the ensuing draw and Cyr raced down field to net the winner 18 seconds later.

Tatum Coffey and Kelly Lechner each netted three goals, Maggie McCormick had a goal and an assist, Katie Guy also scored and Cyr added an assist for the Nittany Lions (6-3). Emi Smith made 11 saves for the win.

Alyse Maiden scored two goals and Joelle Harke and Amanda Norcini each added one for the Dragons (6-3).

Penn State hosts No. 2 Florida, a national semifinalist last season, next Saturday.
