CAMP HILL — Three State College pitchers combined to strike out 12 in the Little Lions 5-1 opener against Cedar Cliff on Thursday.
Ben Finlan went three innings to get the win. The senior struck out three, gave up just three hits and allowed the only Colts run. Nick Raquet pitched three innings in relief and struck out seven. Zach Smeal pitched the final innings and struck out two.
Overall we were pleased because it was the first day we were outside, State College coach Bill Tussey said. Typical first game. Offense was sporadic but got the job done. Pleasantly surprised that our pitching did a great job. All three pitchers were good.
Ryan Karstetter scored two runs, and Dan Fry went 2-for-4 and also scored a run.
Overall, it was a very nice start to the season, Tussey said.
