Penn State women’s lacrosse: Nittany Lions upset No. 2 Florida

— Facing a three-goal halftime deficit, Penn State outscored No. 2 Florida 10-2 in the second half to snap the Gators’ 24-game regular-season win streak with a 16-11 romp at the Penn State Lacrosse Field on Saturday.

Tatum Coffey scored four goals for the No. 9 Nittany Lions (7-3 overall, 2-0 American Lacrosse League). Penn State toppled its highest-ranked team since an 8-7 overtime win over North Carolina on April 6, 2007.

The Gators (13-1, 1-1) led 9-6 at halftime before falling behind 10-7 when the Nittany Lions exploded for six straight goals. After Florida closed to 13-11 with more than five minutes remaining, Coffey iced it with two goals.

Ally Heavens netted a hat trick for Penn State. Maggie McCormick, Kelly Lechner, Mackenzie Cyr and Jenna Mosketti added two goals each. Molly Fernandez also scored. Emi Smith had four saves.

Gabi Weigand had three goals for the Gators.
