PALO ALTO, Calif. — Several Penn State runners turned in career bests on Friday at the Stanford Invitational.
Matt Fischer knocked 10 seconds off his career best with a 14:01.23 in the 5,000 meters, good for a 10th-place finish in his section. Tyler Corkedale finished 15th in his heat and shaved 15 seconds off his previous best with a 14:20.06. Nick Scarpello ran 14:23.08, good for seventh in his section.
Natalie Bower and Tori Gerlach also turned in career bests in the womens 5,000. Bower zipped to an eighth-place finish in her section in 16:12.88, the seventh best time in school history. Gerlach, a freshman, bettered her high school best by more than 20 seconds with a 16:28.51.
Running the 10,000 for the first time, Emily Giannotti clocked the 10th best time in school history with a 34:54.26.
Abbie Benson improved her lifetime best in the 3,000 steeplechase with a 10:33.30, good for ninth in the Penn State record book.
