High school tennis: State College falls 4-1 to Cumberland Valley

From CDT staff reportsApril 4, 2013

In a match interrupted by snow squalls, State College fell 4-1 against Cumberland Valley on Wednesday.

Cooper Josephs’ 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles was the lone win for the Little Lions (3-2). The weather interruption definitely made an impact in the No. 1 doubles match.

State College’s Luke Plowden and Dan Shull led 6-3, 5-1 before the break, but dropped the second set 7-6 and lost a third-set tiebreaker 10-2.

“Cumberland Valley came to play and we were still trying to recover from yesterday's 3 1/2-hour match in the cold,” State College coach Jane Borden said. “It's a tough task to play in these conditions and Cumberland Valley was just better at it than we were.”
