High school softball: Central edges Penns Valley 4-0

From CDT staff reportsApril 4, 2013

Central’s Kylie Gunnett tossed a three-hitter as Central handed Penns Valley a 4-0 loss in the Lady Rams’ season opener on Wednesday.

Gunnett, who pitched Central to a runner-up finish in District 6 last season, struck out 11 and walked none as she outdueled Penns Valley’s Maggie Lynch, who tossed an eight-hitter.

Taylor McKnight and Ashley Smith each had two hits for the Lady Dragons (2-0). Madisyn Sharer belted a triple for the Lady Rams.

“Like everyo

ne else, our lack of being outside hurt us,” Penns Valley coach Don Lucas said. “Lynch pitched pretty good game. She gave up eight hits, but she scattered them. Defensively, we played very well. We’re looking forward to playing some ball.”

Penns Valley hosts defending District 6 Class AA champion Philipsburg-Osceola at 4:30 p.m. today.
