bellefonte Red raiders

High School Baseball: Bellefonte preview

April 7, 2013

Coach: Jeremy Rellinger

Assistants: Jack Schuster, Jon Clark

Last year: 6-13

Key losses: Kevin Tate, Tyler Sunday, and Skylor Wian

Key returnees: Doylan Deitrich, Jordan Fye, Tanner Light, Mike Mann, Ryan McCloskey, Dan Roan, Brandon Shuey, Taylor Smith, Seth Weaver, and Ethan White

Key newcomers: Taylor Butts, Tanner Day, Phil Fenstermacker, Noah Perryman, Andrew Stover, and Josh Weaver

The skinny: After a 6-13 season last year, the Red Raiders’ veterans must come up big to change the team’s fortunes.

Dan Roan batted .404 last season and led the team with 19 hits. Roan, a 2012 Mountain League All-Star first baseman, was nominated for Class AAA All-State consideration. He will be needed with the offensive loss of Kevin Tate, who led the team in RBIs last season.

On the mound, Taylor Smith must have another strong year. Last season, Smith won four games with a 2.65 ERA.

Coach Rellinger says: “Returning several players who gained valuable experience last year is a plus.

The players have exhibited a higher level of confidence coming into this season and our efforts have been towards keeping them focused on getting better each day. If we can achieve our daily goals at practice we will be able to compete at a higher level. We still have a lot to prove.”
