WINGATE — A day after the Bald Eagle Area offense broke out in a big way, the Eagle bats were silenced by DuBois pitcher Josh Hayes.
The senior left-hander only struck out three but allowed just seven hits in a complete-game win and a 7-4 Beavers victory Saturday afternoon.
Less than 24 hours after lashing out 12 hits in a 14-1 win over Philipsburg-Osceola, the BEA batters had trouble with Hayes off-speed pitches.
We faced a righty (Friday) and we hit well, BEA coach Jim Gardner said. Hes a crafty lefty We only struck out three times but we were out in front quite a bit. Today it was like stepping back and starting over against the lefty.
Jon Romine took the loss, striking out six in 4 2/3 innings.
Ryan Dyke had an RBI double and a single, Gage Gardner plated a run with a sacrifice fly and two more Eagle runs came home on errors. Bryce Greene added a single and double.
Garrett Brown hit a two-run double for the Beavers (3-0).
