High school softball: Bald Eagle Area wins duel with Williamsport

From CDT staff reportsApril 18, 2013

— Hits were hard to find Wednesday afternoon at the Milesburg Little League Fields, but Bald Eagle Area got one big one when the Lady Eagles needed it.

Freshman Mikayla Smith singled home the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, while Megan Dudush pitched a no-hitter, as BEA edged Williamsport 1-0.

Dudish (4-2) struck out 13 and walked just one batter in her gem.

“That was her third game this week,” said Lady Eagles coach Kayleen Sidisky. “She had command of her pitches. She was on top of her pitches and she kept them off balance. It was an excellent game for her.”

Dudish also figured into the game’s lone run, drawing a one-out walk before being lifted for courtesy runner Sydney Foster. Logan Fischer then put down a bunt and beat the throw to first base, and after a strikeout a walk loaded the bases before Smith ended the game. The freshman was in an 0-2 hole before working the count back to 2-2, then lofting a Texas-League single over the shortstop’s head to bring home Foster.

“There was no doubt about it when we scored that run,” Sidiskey said. “Here dad is one of our coaches and he was smiling ear-to-ear.”

Dudish outdueled the Millionarires’ own ace, Alexis Bower, who is bound for St. Francis. The senior struck out 10, walked two and allowed just three hits.
