High school baseball: Bald Eagle Area falls to Central

From CDT staff reportsApril 23, 2013

— Central erased an early Bald Eagle Area lead with a five-run second inning and held on to hand the Eagles just their second loss of the season with a 7-3 win on Monday.

BEA (6-2) had taken the lead in the top of the second. Dylan Womer and Ryan Dyke singled and scored on Nate Cleaver’s two-run single.

The Dragons bounced back, taking advantage of four walks and a hit batter in the bottom of the inning. Austin Cunningham had two-run double to highlight the comeback.

Ethan Lewis held the Eagles to one run the rest of the way. Lewis tossed an eight-hitter, struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

“Central battled our pitching very well,” BEA coach Jim Gardner said. “For whatever reason, we have a tough time every time we go out there and we seem to beat them when they come to our place.”

Dyke scored twice and had two hits, while Cleaver had two hits and drove in all three BEA runs. Cunningham and Kasy Hamm had two hits and drove in two for Central.
