High school softball: State College edges Cedar Cliff

— Allison Baney’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted State College to a 3-2 victory over Cedar Cliff on Monday at Community Field.

Cedar Cliff took the lead on Anna Walker’s two-run triple in the first inning. State College (5-4) tied the contest on a pair of earned runs before Baney delivered the game-winner on a sharp single to right-center field.

The teams each had three hits in the contest.

“They hung in there and won,” said State College coach Rick Hall, whose team left nine on base. “It was nice to see Baney get a clutch hit, which we’ve been missing all year long.”

Jess Henderson improved to 5-1, sriking out 11 and walking two.
