High school softball: Bald Eagle Area hands Central first loss

From CDT staff reportsApril 24, 2013

— Haley Giedroc scored one run and knocked in the other as Bald Eagle Area got a big confidence boost with a 2-1 victory over Central on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles (6-4) handed the Scarlet Dragons (11-1) their first loss of the season in the Mountain League showdown.

“It was a really important win since we didn’t play our best ball (Monday),” BEA coach Kayleen Sidisky said after her team lost 8-3 to Mifflinburg. “To play a clearn game, to beat an undefeated team, that gives us a lot of confidence for the playoffs. It was a good response.”

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Giedroc reached base on a one-out single and later scored on a Logan Fischer single. In the seventh, Mikayla Smith reached on a one-out single, advanced to second on Morgan Nyman’s bunt single, and after a strikeout, Giedroc laced the ball over third base and down the line to bring home Smith.

“I was sending her all the way,” Sidisky said of Smith, who scored from second. “Mikayla’s pretty quick.”

Marissa Snyder led off the game with a single and scored Central’s only run off Megan Dudish, who struck out four and allowed six hits and one walk in the win.

Kylie Gunnett only had one strikeout and gave up one walk and seven hits while pitching a strong game until the end in the loss.
