High school softball: Penns Valley Lady Rams win own tourney behind Maggie Lynch

From CDT staff reportsApril 28, 2013

— Maggie Lynch pitched two strong games to earn Penns Valley a pair of shutout victories and the title in the Lady Rams’ tournament on Saturday.

Penns Valley shut down Hollidaysburg 5-0 before blanking West Branch 9-0 in the championship game.

Lynch pitched all 14 innings, striking out seven, walking one and scattering six hits against the Lady Tigers, then struck out 10 with two walks and four hits to beat West Branch.

“Maggie Lynch pitched back-to-back good games for us today,” Lady Rams coach Don Lucas said. “She spread the four hits around (in the second game) and was never in danger. We also got some outstanding play from our outfielders.”

Against Hollidaysburg, the Lady Rams did all their damage in the third inning. Kylee Wasson began the frame with a double. RBI singles from Niki Harbaugh, Ashley Struble and Megan Houser followed before Madisyn Sharer capped the inning with a two-run home run.

Tangie Lyons swung the big bat, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles while scoring three runs and knocking in two more. She also made several big defensive plays in the outfield to help preserve the shutout.

Struble added a single and double for the offense.
