Trash to Treasure Sale seeking volunteers

From CDT staff reportsApril 30, 2013

Organizers of the 12th annual Trash to Treasure Sale are in need of volunteers to help with sorting and set-up for this year’s sale on June 1 at Beaver Stadium.

Trash to Treasure is a recycling sale in which students from residential halls at Penn State donate gently used items to be resold. Items ranging from clothing to appliances to electronics are available for purchase.

Preparing for sale day is a month-long process that requires help from community and campus volunteers. Once the students leave Penn State for the summer the sorting of more than 60 tons of donated items begins.

Two- and three-hour volunteer shifts are scheduled throughout the month of May. Interested individuals and groups can sign up by visiting www.trashtotreasure.psu.edu.

Last year’s sale raised moer than $60,000 with the sale of 76.5 tons of donations. All proceeds from the sale benefit the 35 partner agencies of the Centre County United Way.
