Penn State softball: Nittany Lions fall to Cornhuskers

From CDT staff reportsMay 5, 2013

— Macy Jones came up on the short end of a pitcher’s duel as the No. 14 Nebraska softball team dropped Penn State 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Beard Field.

Jones gave up only three hits and the three runs — one earned — with one strikeout and three walks in her 12th complete-game effort of the season. Two unearned runs for the Cornhuskers (38-11, 15-5) in the first inning, on Penn State’s lone error of the game, proved to be costly.

Tatum Edwards (24-8) won the duel in the circle, also allowing three hits over seven innings while walking four and striking out three.

Reina Furuya’s RBI double accounted for the lone run for Penn State (14-32, 4-16), and Cassidy Bell singled to extend her hit streak to nine games.

The teams meet again at 2:30 p.m. Sunday for Senior Day at Beard Field.
